VOLUNTEERS

What we do

We provide a range of art and craft activities taught by professional tutors specially trained to work with visually impaired people

We meet.......

.....on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 at Herstmonceux village hall during term times

We need volunteers because.......

....many, but not all, of the members are elderly and/or live in rural locations. This, together with the loss of sight makes travelling extremely difficult. Visually impaired people without any support are often socially excluded and depressed by their enforced isolation.

You can help by.....

  • transporting our members to and from the class and/or
  • assisting the tutors in guiding the participants through the craft activity
  • supporting and encouraging members and helping them achieve a satisfying piece of craft work

The kind of people we are looking for

  • View Craft needs reliable volunteers who are over 18 years old
  • You should be able to encourage and motivate people (particularly elderly people) to participate in the craft activities
  • Ideally you will have a car but volunteers who are not drivers are equally welcome

What we offer volunteers

  • Training in visual awareness and sighted guide training run by East Sussex Vision Support, when available. Otherwise, we would recommend "How To Guide People With Sight Loss", an online resource from RNIB
  • Reimbursement of travel and other out of pocket expenses. Please speak to our treasurer, Julie Hathaway, for more details - telephone number 01892 662590, email address juliemay02@aol.com
  • Regular support from the management committee and the other volunteers

If you would like to learn more, please telephone Tina Wray on 01892 61212 or email her at tinawray@googlemail.com

If you decide to apply to volunteer with View Craft, you will be asked to supply two character references and will be checked by the Disclosure & Barring Service
